Amy was always interested in photography. She is famous in her family for demanding that her parents develop 18 rolls of film, all pictures of Disney characters from Disney world, when she was a little kid. Being the amazing parents they are, they actually paid a lot of money to get these “prize winners” developed. When we met, Amy had an old-school Canon film SLR, but as we started taking more and pictures, it simply was no longer up to the task. It took us a long time to save up the money for our first DSLR which even with its standard lens was an absolute marvel to us, and a camera that saw some amazing spectacles through the years. It finally bit the dust, literally, in South Africa after almost five years.

We still shoot Canon and our assortment of lenses and equipment has grown (and occasionally shrunk during tough times). We have never tried to pursue photography as a career, but just absolutely love being able to capture the moments and the spectacles we encounter for good. We are always exploring the world of photography further and always try to better our skills. There are so many amazing photographers out there to learn from.

Our current equipment:

Canon 7D MkII
The 7D MkII is our newest addition to our equipment. The reason for choosing this camera over the 5D was to get the 1.6x magnification factor compared to the full frame.

canon6dCanon 6D
We love the 6D for its ability to shoot high ISO without much noise. Incredibly useful for darker places where there is no way of using a flash. All video we shoot is done with the 6D. At some point we will upgrade this to a 5D MkIII.

Canon-EF-70-200mm-f-2.8-L-IS-USM-LensCanon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens
This lens is just amazing. The price is a little difficult to deal with but the results are consistent and always ridiculously sharp. Such a fun lens for wildlife photography. We have had this lens for around 8 years and its still good as new.

Canon_17-40_f4_L_lensCanon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Lens
This is our workhorse lens which we keep on the camera at most times. Great lens for landscape photography.

Canon_EF_50mm_f18Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens
This little plastic wonder is the best value of anything we have ever bought. It cost the same as a couple of SD memory cards, but deliver results better than most lenses that cost thousands of dollars. We couldn’t take quality portrait shots without it.

extenderCanon Extender EF 1.4X II
The 1.4 extender saves us a lot of money, by not needing to buy a bigger and more expensive lens. The images stay reasonably sharp and we just loose a bit of light sensitivity.

flashCanon 430EX II Speedlite TTL Shoe-Mount Flash
We like this flash for a variety of purposes. Even outdoors it creates more vibrant pictures than we would get otherwise.

Polaroid Z3200 Instant Digital Camera
Polaroid is such an amazing concept. When we are in the field shooting there is nothing that can match it for our needs. We love being able to give locals a copy of their pictures right there on location. Great fun and extremely useful.
